Small Arms - Henry Deringer of Philadelphia, PA, engraved muzzle loading name sake "Peanut" Deringer pistol, manufactured approximately 1830-1850, .40 gauge, steel trigger with engraved German silver trigger guard, steel breech plug with engraved flourishes and inlaid German silver accents as well as a sunburst P hallmark, florally engraved lock stamped "DERINGER, PHILADELA,'' original checkered walnut stock with inlaid German silver details engraved to look like pineapples, unmonogrammed crest on back of grip, no s# available. An incredibly interesting and important piece of American firearms history, Henry Deringer was the inventor of the so named Derringer pistol wildly copied by countless firms. A pistol very similar to this also made by Henry Deringer was used on April 14, 1865 by John Wilkes Booth to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln in Ford's Theater. Includes a protective zip up case.
CONDITION:
Good action; excellent overall cosmetic condition, excellent rifled bore, excellent barrel retains most of its original brown finish, light oxide to lock and trigger; several light dings to walnut stock.
